Amidst the rallies and powerful smashes, few stand tall surpassing beyond measure of talent against all, with each UAAP season end comes a new set of talents with a very few ones transcending their names in the history of Volleyball league. From each conversation, four names consistently emerge: Bella Belen, Angelo Canino, Shaina Nitura, and Alyssa Valdez.
In the debate over who deserves the title of greatest of all time in this game of soaring spikes and thunderous serves, four names continue to echo above rest.
At 32, Alyssa Valdez remains as the benchmark of greatness, who led Ateneo to three straight UAAP Championships along with three MVPs during her collegiate years. An undisputed benchmark to all, the one everyone else measured against.
If Valdez set the generational inspiration, Bella Belen was reshaping it, setting a new standard after being the first ever to receive both Rookie of the Year award and MVP at the very same season, which from then on she holds three-peat MVPs under her belt.
Belen’s command and consistent dominance may place her not only as an all-time great but as the new face of UAAP volleyball history.
Not far behind Belen, comes in third, Angel Canino who also received a Rookie of the Year and MVP award for LaSalle being matched to Belen’s rare feat. Showcasing fierce at the court and fearless in the face of every attack, Canino proves that she thrives under pressure, looking at her trajectory of performance it was assured that she was heading to join the shrine of UAAP legends.
Behind the three, was also a rising icon and a headline-grabber that one day might become an all-time great.
Shaina Nitura, a name who may not yet carry the same weight as Belen and Valdez, but as the captain of the Adamson, she showcased how capable she was amidst the challenges to her gauzy eyesight against fast paced strikes after scoring 38 points during their clash against UP fighting maroons hailing now as the most points in a single UAAP women’s game surpassing Valdez and Sisi Rondina in the history of the league. With time and consistency, Nitura will surely become an all-time great.
In the end, greatness in volleyball is never defined by trophies alone but by the echoes left after the long final blow of the whistle. Alyssa Valdez proved that legends can inspire generations; Bella Belen showed that records are meant to be rewritten; Angel Canino embodies the fearless promise of tomorrow; and Shaina Nitura reminds us that history can be rewritten in a single night.
Together, they do not just represent individual brilliance- they are the living testament that UAAP is not merely a league, but the forge where icons are born and the future of Philippine Volleyball is eternally reborn.
