While each cut of a Filipino's salary adds funds for government programs, only public officials get the credit.
That is why the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged the local government unit and its offices to remove the names and pictures of public officials in government-funded projects.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized that government projects are for public benefit and should not be used for individual interest as these are paid by taxpayers.
“Government programs are not personal billboards. These are funded by taxpayers and must reflect public service, not political credit-grabbing,” Remulla said.
Under the DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2026-006, all government offices must ensure government projects, programs and activities shall not embody a public official in any means.
This also cites the 1987 Constitution's Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees that the public office is a public trust, and the Commission of Audit rules out that personalized displays are unnecessary expenses which the 2026 General Appropriations Act reinforced by prohibiting attaching names and images of officials.
Including, but not limited to slogans, pictures, affiliations, color schemes, initials or any symbols of a politician shall not be displayed on public signages, tarpaulins, and other public materials.
The interior secretary ordered all officials and employees to cause immediate removal and correction of non-compliance materials and let politicians who continue to self-promote public properties face accountability and administrative cases.
