Impeachment complaint vs. VP Duterte refiled

After the Supreme Court (SC) declared last year’s complaint “unconstitutional,” the Makabayan Bloc resubmitted its impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte today, Feb. 2.

According to Makabayan’s Renato Reyes Jr., it cited the Vice President’s alleged misuse of confidential funds in the complaint.

The endorsement pointed out “betrayal of public trust” by Duterte as head of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Office of the Vice President.

Former lawmakers France Castro and Neri Colmenares were among the complainants.

Meanwhile, a second complaint was filed by Tindig Pilipinas convenors, highlighting not only her misuse of funds, but also her purported tolerance of extrajudicial killings (EJKs).

While SC originally announced that the one-year bar rule would lapse by Feb. 6, its new ruling stated that it ended on Jan. 15.

As of writing, other sets of individuals have arrived at the House of Representatives to file impeachment raps against the former DepEd Secretary.

These include Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Rep. Leila De Lima and Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña.
