AdU prevails over UP, ends UAAP S88 five-game skid

Adamson University snapped a five-game slump and edged University of the Philippines, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate men's volleyball at the University of Sto. Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion, April 15.

Reflecting on their first-round win over the same opponents, Adamson head coach Raffy Mosuela said he urged his team to prove it wasn’t a fluke and to keep pushing in the second round.

“Huwag natin ipakita na nakachamba lang tayo nung first round,” Mosuela said.

“Ulitin natin, i-push natin ang sarili natin na itong second round, kahit hindi na makapasok sa Final Four, still ongoing ang season so bigyan natin ng pride ang school,” he added.

AdU’s win forced a three-way tie for sixth place with UE Red Warriors and UP Fighting Maroons, each having 3-10 records.

The Falcons pulled away from a tight fourth set through strong offensives and agile plays, capitalizing on a sluggish Maroons side to establish their momentum.

Adamson then erased a 4–9 deficit and forced a back-and-forth affair for a 23-all tie thanks to Richard Besorio’s push shot before securing the win behind iron-like defenses.

The Ilonggo rookie Besorio was named MVP with 23 points on 20 attacks and 12 excellent receptions, while Lourenz Domingo tallied 19 excellent sets, eight digs and seven points.

On the losing side, Tommy Castrodes shone with 19 points, 14 receptions, and eight digs, while sibling duo Raheem and Milven Francisco added 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The Soaring Falcons will next face Far Eastern University on Saturday, while UP will close the season against UST on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
