No Better Hypocrite

With the official announcement of Vice President Sara Duterte’s bid for presidency in 2028, one thing is certain: even with all the wrong-doings, controversies, and punches against their name, no one will stop her from trying to get back on the seat her father once wrecked havoc with.

When one gets the second most powerful seat in the country—as well as the position of leading the Department of Education (DepEd)—a lot will think that this will lead to progress and reform. However, the opposite happened. During Duterte’s term as DepEd Secretary and currently as Vice President of the country, instead of good things—chaos erupted.

Her death threats, the controversial book, confidential funds, and many controversies that made headlines never helped the country. In reality, it made the country much more chaotic. No one must be foolish enough to actually believe that her time as VP and head of the education sector led to good things.

Now, with the announcement of her plans to run for the presidency in the 2028 presidential elections, certainly, her plans to give the Dutertes the most powerful seat back wasn’t a surprise. In reality, it just proves her and her family’s hypocrisy.

Because the Dutertes are currently in their worst times. Multiple impeachment complaints have been filed against Sara. In addition, their patriarch, former President Rodrigo Duterte is currently in the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, while her brothers in the congress are no more than a laughing stock that walks out of sessions when things don’t go according to their plans.

So in reality, her plan to win the presidency in 2028 is not just for her personal convenience—it’s all part of the dynasty’s plans to clean their filthy names. It must not surprise us, rather, that this only exposes the family’s plans and the potential of more unconstitutional things to happen if they ever get the power back.

Her and her family’s supporters will argue that she’s innocent. That there’s exactly a reason why her impeachment did not proceed. But isn’t it ironic? That the very same officials that argued against her impeachment complaints are the same officials she has pictures with smiling as if they did not neglect the Filipinos of justice. Certainly, ironically ironic.

This bid for the presidency gives us nothing but hypocritical truths. This should not give us nothing but the truth—that if she gets the power, nothing but chaos will erupt. Because there is no better hypocrite than her.
