Raffles are meant to bring excitement within the community. However, it was met with disappointment instead as actress-vlogger Ivana Alawi announced her sweepstake collaboration with a gambling platform.
Alawi posted on Wednesday, July 15, on her Facebook page that she will be giving away 100 iPhone 17 units, after spending over P4.28 million pesos at the mall on the gadgets.
“Happy ako dahil 100 tao ang makakatanggap at magagamit niyo ito.” she exclaimed.
However, criticism followed after one of the mechanics required following the Casino Plus page, a popular online gambling site, as winners will be randomly selected through their followers.
The vlogger claimed that the platform wanted to help a lot of people, that is why they are ‘helping’ through a giveaway.
A netizen responded that ‘P4 million worth of iPhones is nothing’ compared to the lives that could be ‘affected by promoting online casinos’.
“Millions of Filipinos may have been exposed to this promotion and some might be encouraged to try gambling. Please use your influence wisely.” the netizen added.
On the other hand, another netizen laughed it off as they jokingly said the promotion is ‘useless’, as ‘they are focused on the iPhones’.
As of July 18, the Facebook video garnered over 7.9 million reactions and 6.5 million comments with some followers hoping to win a gadget and others criticizing that the sweepstake is promoting ‘gambling’, especially to younger audiences.
