Charlie Kirk shot dead during Utah campus event

Charlie Kirk, 31, conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University during his “American Comeback Tour” on Sept. 10. According to police, a single gunshot struck Kirk in the neck around 12:20 p.m. local time under a tent at the “Prove Me Wrong” table. He was later pronounced dead. Investigators believe the shot came from a rooftop about 200 yards away and have launched a manhunt for the gunman, who remains unidentified. At the time of the attack, roughly 3,000 people were in attendance. Witnesses described panic as the crowd rushed to escape once the gunfire rang out. Police detained two men for questioning but later released them, saying no evidence linked either to the attack. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox labeled the shooting a political assassination, noting that early findings suggest Kirk was deliberately targeted. President Donald Trump ordered U.S. flags lowered to half-staff in honor of Kirk and condemned the violence, while leaders across the political spectrum expressed sorrow and solidarity.
